Adoptive parent, Amy

Dear Birthmother,

Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know more about me. My name is Amy, and I have looked forward to being a mom for a very long time!

Some of my earliest memories involve sitting in a tiny rocking chair, singing to my dolls, and daydreaming about being a mommy. Becoming a mother through adoption is a very special way to fulfill this dream, and I am so excited about what the future holds!

About Me

I have a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. As a speech and language therapist, I am blessed to have a career that allows me to work with and help children every day.

I love music, books, animals and holidays. I can’t wait to share these things with an amazing child. I love spending time with family and friends going to movies, concerts, museums and festivals. I’m Catholic and faith is important to me.

Volunteering is an important part of my life. I want my child to know the joy of making someone else’s life brighter.

My Family and Friends

Although I’m still single I really won’t be raising my child alone. I have an amazing support system of family and friends who are willing and able to be a part of my child’s life. I have an older sister and brother who both have children. I have two nieces and two nephews and I’ve been lucky enough to be a huge part of their lives from the very beginning. I’ve learned a lot from watching how their parents love them and let them develop their own personalities while still setting boundaries and guiding the choices they make.

In watching my parents with my nieces and nephews I’m convinced that they're the greatest grandparents on the planet. They are always there no matter what. They’ll play catch with my nephew or hide and seek with my niece for hours. They love being “Gran and Granddad”! They live close by and I’m with them often. They also have a home in Florida so many trips to Disney World are in order!

I have a great group of friends many of whom have already asked if they can babysit! They’re a wonderfully diverse group of men and women.

My Home

I live in Maryland, in a beautiful, wooded neighborhood filled with friendly neighbors, kids, and dogs. My condominium is not far from the Inner Harbor of Baltimore and a short drive to Washington D.C. and the Smithsonian museums. I’m lucky to be near several great cities and many wonderful things for a child to do and see. It will be a great place for your child to grow up. I have lived in Maryland for most of my life, and I’m very lucky that my home is so near my parents, my brother, sister, and my cousins.

My Work

I get to have a lot of fun at work. I work as a speech-language therapist in an elementary school. The kids I work with have difficulty expressing themselves or understanding what others are saying to them. You can’t beat having work that’s fun and rewarding at the same time! It’s also allowed me to develop a lot of patience. I’ve seen many different kinds of behaviors over the years of working with kids. I’ve learned how to be calm yet firm. The kids know the rules. I’ve gotten good at setting limits and boundaries while being loving and easy going.

I’ll have the same schedule as my child. We’ll be home together on school holidays and snow days. I’ll be a stay at home mom during the summer and never have to work nights or weekends.

I promise to love, support, and care for your child with everything I have! As a parent, I’ll be patient and loving. I will raise your child to have a good heart and to value honesty and kindness. I will make sure your child receives an education that allows them to realize their dreams.

Your child will always know his or her adoption story. I am willing to create an adoption at whatever level of openness you are comfortable with, including visits. I promise to send pictures and letters if you wish. I am happy to talk with you and answer any other questions you have. Please contact Lifetime Adoption at 1-800-923-6784.
